Asakusa

It’s funny, it looks like ASAKUSA but is pronounced Asa’kksa.

Spent most of the day there with an editor from Nippon Camera for the April issue Tokyo Camera Style shoot. Had the sun been out I bet even more people would have been out with film cameras, but even with the constant cloud cover we ended up with enough material for the best installment yet.
It was interesting running into an Australian visiting Japan who was familiar with Tokyo Camera Style already. Later at the Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara I met a man with a Makina 67 who told me he was a follower on Tumblr. I’m consistently interested by the response the site has gotten. It is nice to see that other people find it as enjoyable to scroll through as I do.

Walking around Asakusa for several hours I shot 5 rolls of film and some digital snaps. I hadn’t set my camera to 1600asa before, and probably won’t again.

We did have time to take some “Asakusa Portraits”. It’s not really in my persona to shoot like this, but now I see just how easy it is! Oh man all y’alls have to do is just set your digital point and shoot to a 1:1 ration and its monochrome mode. In all honestly the sides of the gate where these (and so many others) were taken in Asakusa is a perfectly lit little corner of Tokyo.
