2008 is off to a bad start. In case you have not already heard, Polaroid will stop producing film, with their 600 film ending in 2009.

I’d like to think that there is a sufficient Japanese Market for Fuji Film to capitalize on by importing the machines from the Netherlands factory and manufacturing it themselves. The current polaroid/sx-70 revival could grow if marketed right, but for the most part Americans are too practical for Polaroids. Like so many other American things(brands), Polaroid can probably only be best appreciated (and re-supported) by the Japanese.

But for now if you are a fan of 600 film I suggest switching into “Hunter Gatherer” mode and pick up packs of film as you find them. The pack above was purchased after work at my local DPE shop for 2477 yen. You might think $2.00 a photo sounds like a lot until you actually see the photograph.
And that is what makes this film so amazing; I have very few (no) polaroids that I look at and think “Damn, I really wish I had that cruddy dollar again instead of this photo.”
