Let’s look at some old workprints

Filed under: japan, Photography — John @ 9:19 am

Back before I got my little Canoscan LiDE 60 cheap scanner I used to do my scanning in a very narrow block of time at the end of 4th period and before lunch at school. Going through old negatives and finding interesting photos that I had not noticed before, I wondered if I might have some interesting photos that had already been printed on 8×10 RC paper. The answer was, Just Maybe, and even then Very Few. The trash is going to be full of crappy RC prints this week, there are like 8 boxes to go through.

Anyways- There be neither rhyme or reason to these pictures below, except that they were all taken from 2004 to 2005.

  1. In the last photograph, is that kid pointing a gun? I really like that image: the way the person with their back to you is standing seems strange - almost awkward, like they have no front. Also, the first photograph is like a cartoon.

  2. He had a toy blaster guy and pointed it at everything, me, his grandparents, and statues of Buddha the size of the Nebraska state capitol.

  3. Mom: C’mon, kids, cut it out. He might follow us home.
Kids: Hot dog! This guy wants to take our pictures! Quick v-sign!

I like that one. Is that a typical reaction with mom/kid shots?

  4. Oh, and I see the lines coming down, but is there anything else that caught your eye on shichi?

  5. Thanks for thinking to go back and pick these out. They’re all quite whimsical.

  6. Nick for Comment #3- Normally the moms look more like the mom in #2 or like the one in the lower picture on page 124 of this month’s issue of Photo Contest. But this one, she looked confused and not excited, but classy.

and for picture #7, there is some weird stuff happening with space behind that no parking sign. The pole and it’s shadow look like they are trying to keep all the rest of that wave action steady…
