who is which

One of these guys is an established, well known and talented photographer in Japan. The other took these pictures.
Onishi sensei showed me around his part of town, Kasai-rinkaikoen. He is my favorite photographer, and I say this without any kakkotsuketteru koto. Not because I know the guy, but because he is an incredible photographer. We went over the specifics of my exhibition in August. He also showed me many of his original prints from the past 30 years and some of his cameras as well. Check out his site
and look at the Random Photos and also Gallery1 and Gallery 2.
His wife made dinner, and she is a great cook.
Ohnishi’s photographs look promising, but they’re smothered by Flash. I’d love to have a better look.

Perhaps one of the best ways to look at a person’s work is at their kitchen table, one picture at a time. I was able to go through all of his photos just like that. He showed me the ones in Gallery 1 (and then some- probably 150 in all) and they were beautifully printed on 16×20 fiber paper. Stunning would be a good word to use here.
Another way to see his work would be to get the May issue of Asahi Camera, or this month’s Nippon Camera. Actually, chances are any issue of Asahi Camera you find will have his work in it somewhere. What I really enjoyed was to see another photographer’s methods- how he organized his prints and negatives. And cameras.
Above his camera shelf/case sits his Kimura Ihee trophy. That is something I don’t have in my room.
