Drunk with Power

The power… TO PURCHASE.

A few months ago all teachers were asked if we would like to get a copy of this year’s graduating class yearbook. Not knowing any of the high school seniors, I declined. It was later when I was told that instead of getting the yearbook I would be presented with 5000 yen (50 bucks) worth of bookstore gift certificates. I was in Shinjuku last night and I stopped by the Minami-guchi Kinokuniya. Looking at the photo book section and thinking “I HAVE to get something that is greater or equal to 5000 yen” is a wonderful feeling. I decided to toss in another 1000 yen and went home with Stephen Shore’sUncommon Places“.

Recently I have shot about 5 rolls a day walking around my town. Since it was finals week I was free from 1pm and the light and weather was very nice. I have been trying to shoot at f22 or f16 as much as possible.

なつかしいー

I just heard (and then saw out the window) a familiar sounding hellicopter fly over the school. Ahhh the memories. Growing up near the Army National Guard base in Lincoln the distinctive sounds of Bell UH-1 Huey helicopters could be heard quite often. That and RF4-C Phantom II afterburners. I keep hoping that I will get to hear the roar of a F4 here in Chiba, as this plane is still used by the Japan Self Defense Force. I used to hear them often when I lived in Kawasaki City a few years back…

“From 1958 until its U.S. service retirement in 1996, it flew more than 17 million miles - the equivalent of one aircraft flying continuously for more than 2,000 years. ”

I have this mental list of some of my favorite industrial designs, and the F4 Phantom is in the top ten. Right behind the John Deere 4020
