john,
tres bien.
humm your photos are so brutal!
framing and the way you crop people in your frame are insane.
it left me huge confusion. I dont know what’s going on..
I can not define what it is. it feels really uncomfortable to see things in such a way I am not familiar with in real life.
i also feel distance between you and what you observe, but still there is certain level of intimacy.. i just don’t get it. I judt dont understand it!!! it is very overwhelming and wears me out..
the ambiguity and brutalness(?) makes me call it Yakuza
humanbeings that I see in real life is not crazy like i see in your photo. people would be pissed to see your daibutu photo seeing how you cropped out daibutu’s head!
gosh, I can not get enough out of it.
someone said that photography is pure contingency and nothing else. is that so? how about your photo? is it total contingency or soemthing else?

Nothing ruins a photograph like Forced Sentimentality and I don’t want my photographs to be the confirmations of my expectations.
These are not street photographs, not Leica photographs, and not travel photographs.
I just react to what interests me.

if it is not street photo, snap shoot, leica photo and travel photo, how would you define your photography? maybe you dont want to creat any category for your photography??
then what it is?
what interests you the most?
I want you to expian to all of us who don’t really know about photography as an art!!
please

I think the thing that is discomforting about this set is that you are shooting down on most of the people. I take it you are a tall man. It might improve your work if you would attempt more eye-level shots. The choice of the pictures seems good from a documentary standpoint otherwise.

I am about six-five so this naturally leads to a sense of looking “down” on people.. I never really thought about that aspect of it before. Interesting.
