back to school

Filed under: General — John @ 6:41 pm

This morning started off with a welcome-back ceremony for the jr. high students. It was followed by an official Weights and Measures event, with each and every one of the students being weighed and measured by the school nurse and her assistants. To leave the gym each student had to pass through a gauntlet of eagle-eyed teachers who checked for raised skirts (on the girls) and unkempt hair (on the guys). The boys whose hair was deemed too long were (mostly) literally grabbed by the teachers before they could escape through the door and made to sit on the floor along with the other follicle offenders. This made for some pretty funny instances- One boy would get caught and the subsequent laughter of his friend behind him was then interrupted by a tug on his arm as he too was sent in to the pile. After all of the other kids left the gym the boys were given a firm talking to as their homeroom teachers were taking down names. They have until next Wednesday to fall in line.
Once they were dismissed several of the 3rd year guys (for whom long hair is the result of fashion, not a by product of laziness like it is with the 12 year olds) jumped up and encircled Matsumoto Sensei and pointed out the fact that his current haircut does not meet the School-Standards either. Come to think of it, neither does the hairstyle of the prime minister.
