thirsty

This here is the largest glass of water that I have been served in a resturant. Normally the water glasses that accompany a meal in Japan are quite small and chock full of ice. This means that after the first 5 refills, the waitress either leaves a pitcher on my table (rare) or gives me a large beer glass full of water (even rarer).
I was told the other night by a friend that it is said in Europe that only Americans and Frogs drink water when they eat.
“食べながら水を飲む人はアメリカ人とカエルだけ。”

Hi John, I can relate to the water issues. For a society that speaks so highly of “nature” you would think that water would be a reasonable request. I usually reconcile myself with some tea.
By the way, you wrote to me once on JapanPhotolist… shortly before it was moved.
I enjoy your blog…and would like to correspond if you have the time. And if you’re ever down around Osaka, let me know.

Hi Justin-
Hisashiburi-
Thanks for the comment. I keep thinking of all of these american resturants with their massive glasses of water- usually as I am taking the second (and final) swallow from a small glass here. I am not a big fan of tea though. I think I ought to get used to it.
By the way, I like the ideas of making photographs of photographs like with the girl’s face on your Nov 23rd daily photo.
I’d like to go to Osaka again sometime- I was there once for an afternoon..
email me sometime– jvsypal@yahoo.com
